Snow Day at Marist!

And so the Winter Wonderland continues! It’s been days of talk: Snow Storm one day and Wintry Mix on another day. The question for us college kids is will we have class?

The other morning, my alarm woke me up at 7:30 AM- just in time to get ready for my 8:00 AM class. With the anticipated forecast, I naturally checked to see if we have a snow day! I called the Marist Weather Hotline and on the other line, I heard “all day and evening classes are cancelled.” I gave myself about 30 seconds of celebration before going back to bed.

I woke up a few hours later and made myself a nice breakfast: French toast and hot coffee. My favorite thing about living in Gartland Commons is the convenience of having our own kitchen just footsteps away! It’s especially convenient on cold and snowy days like today.

I spent the rest of my morning doing homework and getting ahead on this semester’s projects. My five housemates and I watched “Kite Runner” in our living room while each working on our individual assignments. We kept each other focused and made it a productive day!

The movie ended, and we closed the books. It was time to play in the snow! One of my housemates is from Brazil and rarely sees this kind of weather. She’s been in her glory this semester with all of the snowstorms. Each storm, she begs us to allow her to shovel off our cars. We gladly accept! I allowed her to use my snow pants today. She was so amazed that there was such thing as pants that are made to wear in the snow.

All day we kept saying how beautiful the river is in the winter. Well, it’s beautiful in the spring, summer, and fall as well, but today it looked especially beautiful. The mountains on the other side of the river are all covered in snow. We are amazed by the little blocks of ice that cover the river for as far as we can see! It is really an amazing scene this time of year.

I’m now winding down my snow day! We’re back in our cozy apartment, with a mug of hot cocoa in hand, and ready for the Wintry Mix forecasted for days to come. I’ll be happy with another Snow Day, but part of me is ready for the crazy winter weather to ease up just a little bit! I think my nice housemate is eventually going to get sick of shoveling off my car…
