Hudson Valley Magazine Internship

At Hudson Valley Magazine, a lot is going on at once.  A monthly magazine needs to be put out on deadline to thousands of subscribers and on newsstands around the Hudson Valley.  Preparations for the next issue are happening in advance for the next few issues while finishing up the current issue.

Specifically, I am interning with the Marketing & PR Director, and she is planning the Excellence in Nursing Awards in May.

I am assisting will all processes, from helping her stay organized, contacting hospitals and medical groups for historic photographs, creating graphics for the Website and drafting emails, updating promotional materials, to researching local businesses to make party favors.  I have also researched local Women in Business for the December Issue of the Magazine, as well as women who would be good speakers at an event to go along with the issue.  I have called and emailed sponsors for the Nursing Event.  I research Events in the Hudson Valley.  I also have edited and made corrections to various promotional materials. I have gained experience in Photoshop and in InDesign, which will be very helpful for my future.

During my internship, I have been exposed to graphic design, marketing the brand of the Magazine and the Nursing event, Public Relations for the magazine and the event, and all aspects of communications – visual and verbal.

I am excited to see how all the preparation I have helped with for the Excellence in Nursing Event in May come to life.  So far, my internship has been a great learning experience.  I am lucky to have a nice and encouraging supervisor and a casual, friendly atmosphere to work in.  I look forward to the rest of my internship, and also to attending the Excellence in Nursing Event to see how everything comes together that I have been working on!

I have had wonderful internship experiences during my time at Marist, which is something I am very thankful for.  Hudson Valley Magazine has given me the real-world experience and skills will help me in my future career.
