Let’s Talk About Marist Poll

For those students interested in learning about the day to day activities of public opinion, Marist has something pretty great to offer: the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, more colloquially known as MIPO. It’s just one of the few things our college has to offer that attracts prospective students to Marist.

Marist Poll is a national poll conducted by the Marist Institute for Public Opinion (MIPO) here on campus in Poughkeepsie, New York. ​Founded in 1978 the Marist Poll is highly respected on campus and around the globe. MIPO is home to the Marist Poll which measures public opinion at the local, state and national level. The surveys conducted include various topics from politics, money, family to sports and entertainment.

Marist Poll is the first college­based survey center in the nation that involves undergraduates in conducting survey research. MIPO is great opportunity for student participates to construct political science, computing, communications, marketing and psychology into an interdisciplinary learning experience. At MIPO you can find student employment, internships, conferences, and seminars with leading journalists, pollster as well as government officials.

Having Marist Poll on campus gives students the opportunity to become educated on issues nationally and globally. Many students who work at Marist Poll find that their experience is very beneficial towards their major. For those who are working at Marist Poll just as an employee and not for their major believe that talking to different people has helped with their public speaking skills.

Student employee, Lindsey Hans, finds working at Marist Poll “a great way for young college students to get involved and to know about the political and social issues that are facing our country. Also it is interesting to hear and interact with different people about their opinions from across the nation.”

The different surveys conducted at Marist Poll are used domestically as well as nationally, which is beneficials towards statistical purposes. Marist Poll is well respected on campus and off campus and will continue to expand and grow.
