This Monday marks the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. As a college community, we traditionally pause to remember that terrible day and the thousands of lives that were senselessly lost in New York City, the Pentagon, and in rural Pennsylvania. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones that day, especially those members of the Marist community whose lives were personally impacted by the tragedy. Despite the passage of time, the events of that day remain seared in the memories of those who lived through it, particularly those of us who were in the New York area at the time.
In observance of this solemn anniversary, the College will hold a memorial Mass on Monday, September 11 at 12:05 p.m. in the Chapel. Members of the Marist community are also invited to stop by outside the Chapel to light a remembrance candle between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. that day.
No matter what your plans are on September 11, I hope you will spend a few moments to remember the men, women, and children who were taken from us 16 years ago.
