As I impatiently waited on the TSA line, the feeling of anxious anticipation sunk in when I realized I was about to embark on the most life-changing experience: studying abroad. Living in Florence, Italy for four months with my best friends was an experience beyond anything I could have ever imagined- one filled with not only lots of delicious food, but newfound perspectives on myself and the world around me.
Since freshman year, I knew I wanted to study abroad but never thought I’d have the confidence to pursue it. The thought of leaving behind my family and friends at Marist for an entire semester was extremely intimidating but I was determined to get the most out of my college experience. I did not want my college experience to just be defined by academics, but rather, the unique opportunities Marist provided to students. Studying abroad was just one of those unique opportunities that my friends and I knew we needed to take advantage of.
After I attended the Marist Study Abroad Fair, I immediately made my way to the study abroad office in Hancock to pick up my application. The Study Abroad Fair explained in detail the logistics of studying abroad for a semester. The resources Marist provides made the study abroad application process seamless- they handled every logistical aspect of the trip from group flight proposals, housing, and even class scheduling. All I needed to do was start packing my bags for what would become the best four months of my life.
While four months seems like a long time, I blinked and my time in Florence came to an end. Since Marist handled all the internal aspects of the trip, I was able to enjoy Florence in all of its beauty. I spent my time devouring the most delicious pizza and pasta dishes that still make my mouth water to this day. Everyday contained a new discovery ranging from restaurants to historical elements of Florence that truly took my breath away. The best part about it all was that I was able to indulge in these memories with my best friends. Together we took advantage of all Florence, and Europe had to offer. We let our curiosity run free as we explored the world together, enjoying every second life had to offer.
Florence, Italy will forever have a special place in my heart and I owe it all to Marist for making this experience possible!
